A blast to the past

We’ve collectively hosted several fundraisers over the years to raise thousands of dollars for various causes. Most recently, we organized Mind Matters in November and AKASSA’s inaugural fundraiser for Women’s History Month in 2021.

Mind Matters

November 2021

The goal of this fundraiser was to increase mental health awareness, especially within the Asian American Pacific Islander community, and encourage everyone to take time to recharge and rejuvenate before the new year. Many artists created unique art/goods specifically for this campaign, curated around the theme of mental health and wellness.

The money raised was donated to the Asian Mental Health Collective (AMHC), which aims to destigmatize mental health care in Asian communities around the globe and make it approachable and accessible for all.

Great Women in History

March 2021

This was AKASSA’s first fundraiser. We collaborated with various artists to build our Great Women in History boxes. Each box celebrated the life and contributions of several notable women in history: Audrey Hepburn, Cleopatra, Frida Kahlo, Jane Austen, and Jane Goodall.  All proceeds from this fundraiser went to The Loveland Foundation who help provide therapy for women and girls in communities of color.

Heart to Art

July 2020

In 2020, we were all adapting to a new reality with the surge of the pandemic. However racial justice & inequity were front of mind due to the hate crimes committed against the Black community; especially the murder of George Floyd on May 25th, 2020. For our July 2020 fundraiser, we focused on raising funds for the NAACP by auctioning over 40 pieces of art made by AKASSA co-founders, Ashlee Lam and Serena Brown.
